The borders of the low-emission zone of Tübingen correspond to those of the municipality, as is the case with many cities in Baden-Württemberg. The low-emission zone is shown with orange on the map above and it extends far beyond the city center. The B27 and B28 also lie within the zone, which means that you cannot use these roads to bypass Tübingen without an emissions sticker. If you come from or want to go to Stuttgart and do not need to be in Tübingen itself, you could use the A81 a bit to the west of Tübingen instead. On German highways you never need an emissions sticker.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you do need to be in Tübingen but do not have an emissions sticker, it is possible to park outside the low-emission zone. From the train stations Wannweil (A on the map) and Pfäffingen (B), it is fairly easy to take a train that will bring you to the city center in about 10 minutes. If you approach from the east, be aware that Reutlingen has its own low-emission zone.

If you are in Germany already, you can still buy your emissions sticker at vehicle inspection companies such as DEKRA and TÜV. Larger car dealerships usually also offer this service, but gas stations on the highway do not. Take your vehicle registration certificate with you and ask for an Umweltplakette, which is the common German name for the emissions sticker. It may also be useful to look up the opening times beforehand, especially if you travel during the weekend.
