Low-emission zone in Neu-Ulm
From above Ulm and Neu-Ulm appear as one city, but on paper they are separated. The part north of the Danube in Baden-Württemberg is called Ulm and the part south of the river in Bavaria is called Neu-Ulm. The two cities also have two separate low-emission zones. On the map above the low-emission zone of Neu-Ulm is shown with yellow. The low-emission zone of Ulm is shown with green. The Danube river forms the border between the two zones. The low-emission zone of Neu-Ulm covers the city center near the river and a large part of the business park that is enclosed between the railroad track, the Europastraße and the Reuttier Straße. On these roads that form the border or the zone an emissions sticker is not required.
Parking outside the low-emission zone
If your vehicle is not eligible for an emissions sticker or if you did not have enough time to purchase a sticker, you can still park outside the low-emission zone. Your best option is the swimming pool of Neu-Ulm (A on the map). From here you can reach the center of Neu-Ulm in about 10 minutes. If it is Ulm you want to reach, all you need to do is follow the river. Just keep walking in the direction of the Munster of Ulm. This church has the tallest tower in the world and it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city. On foot it will take you less than 20 minutes.
Which emissions sticker is required in Neu-Ulm?
Neu-Ulm is the only city in Germany where the yellow sticker is still allowed. In Ulm on the other side of the Danube, the green sticker is required. With a green sticker you can enter both cities, but with a yellow sticker you cannot enter Ulm.
Where can you buy the German emissions sticker?
Because the yellow emissions sticker can only be used in Neu-Ulm, it is not widely available in other parts of Germany. Many local branches of companies that sell the emissions sticker, such as DEKRA, A.T.U and TÜV, no longer offer the yellow sticker. If your vehicle is only eligible for the yellow sticker and you need to go to Neu-Ulm, you can still buy the sticker at the Kfz-Zulassungsstelle of Neu-Ulm. You can find it at the Kantstraße 8, which is right next to the swimming pool we suggested above as an opportunity to park outside the low-emission zone. Make sure you bring your vehicle registration certificate.
If your vehicle is eligible for the green sticker, you are allowed to drive in Neu-Ulm as well as in all other German low-emission zones.
