Low-emission zone in Leonberg/Hemmingen
The low-emission zone Leonberg/Hemmingen lies just north of Stuttgart and exists since 2 December 2013. Apart from Leonberg and Hemmingen, several other towns and villages are part of the zone. Map of the low-emission zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen
The low-emission zone, shown on the map with orange, covers the towns and villages of Leonberg, Gerlingen, Ditzingen, Korntal-Münchingen, Hemmingen, Schwieberdingen, Höfingen, Heimerdingen, Hirschlanden and Gebersheim. There is no need to be afraid that you will accidentally drive into the low-emission zone. On all major roads, the beginning of the zone is clearly indicated. Do keep in mind that while not indicated on the map, the zones of Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart border the low-emission zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen to the north and east. While administered separately, for visitors it functions as one large low-emission zone.
Exceptions
As everywhere in Germany, an emissions sticker is not required on the highways. A prerequisite is that you enter and leave the zone on the highway. The two highways that go through the low-emission zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen, the A8 and the A81, are indicated on the map with blue lines. Important to know is that you enter the low-emission zone of Ludwigsburg to the north as soon as you leave the zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen on the A81.
Parking outside the low-emission zone
Leonberg and the other towns within the zone are small. Unlike in larger cities, you will not find large parking terrains outside the city center here from where you can continue your trip by public transport. If you have to be within the zone but do not have an emissions sticker for your vehicle, you can still park in Renningen (A on the map). From here take line S6 or S60 of the S-Bahn in the direction of Stuttgart. Trains stop in Leonberg, Höfingen and Ditzingen.
Which sticker do you need in Leonberg/Hemmingen?
As in Ludwigsburg and Stuttgart, it is the green emissions sticker that you need in the low-emission zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen. Without this sticker, you risk a fine of €100 an you will be asked to leave the low-emission zone.
Where do you get the emissions sticker?
The German emissions sticker can be purchased at vehicle inspection companies such as DEKRA and A.T.U, but also at many large car dealerships. Gas stations along the highway, which are not authorized to perform exhaust emission tests, do not sell the sticker. When you want to buy your sticker while on the road in Germany, make sure you buy it before you enter a low-emission zone. Also have a look at the often limited opening times during the weekend.
If you want to save yourself some trouble, you can also order the emissions sticker online. For this you need a copy of your vehicle registration certificate, of which examples for most European countries are shown on the order page. Your sticker will be issued within one working day and be sent to your home address by postal mail. Payment options include most common credit cards, iDEAL, Apple Pay and SEPA bank transfer.
What is there to see and do in Leonberg and Hemmingen?
As already explained above, the low-emission zone of Leonberg/Hemmingen includes many smaller towns. Leonberg itself is famous for its many medieval, half-timbered houses. You will also find a small castle here that is known for its beautiful renaissance garden, the Pomeranzengarten. From the Engelberg, a 481 meters high mountain, you have a beautiful view over the city. The other towns boast more medieval houses, but on a smaller scale. In Hemmingen there is also a small castle which now functions as the town hall.
