Wuppertal is one of the few German cities where the low-emission zone is split into two parts, both of which are shown on the map above in orange. The larger of these two parts is very difficult to recognize if you want to avoid a fine, because the borders of the zone follow zigzag lines through the suburbs of the city. The smaller part in Vohwinkel is easier to understand.

Good to know is that the emissions sticker is not needed on the highway in Wuppertal. This means that if you pass through the city on the A46, you will not be fined if you do not have emissions sticker. Of course, it is important that you enter and leave the low-emission zone on the highway.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you do not have an emissions sticker, for example if your vehicle is too old, then you can still park outside the low-emission zone. Your best option would be one of the stations of the S-Bahn, where there usually are plenty of parking spaces. Station Zoologischer Garten (A on the map) west of Wuppertal and Langerfeld (B) east of Wuppertal are our recommendations. From here simply take a train into the city center. It will stop at all major destinations.

What is there to see and do in Wuppertal?

Wuppertal

Wuppertal has almost 350.000 inhabitants, which makes it a major German city. Despite this, you will not find a historic inner city with many tourist sights here. Wuppertal was formed from several villages and only became a city with the industrialization of the 19th century. The most important attraction is the Wuppertaler Schwebebahn, an old monorail above the Wupper river and the streets of the city. The Zoo Wuppertal and several museums are also worth checking out if you are in Wuppertal for a longer period of time.
