On the map above, we indicated the low-emission zone of Mannheim with orange. This is the part of the city you can only enter with an emissions sticker. Apart from the city center, Neckarstadt and Oststadt are part of the low-emission zone as well.

Exceptions

Unlike in some other German cities, you will not find any roads you can take to pass through the low-emission zone of Mannheim without an emissions sticker. Good to know however, is that the roads that form the border of the zone are not part of it. You can use the B36 to pass the zone south of the city center, for example if you want to reach Ludwigshafen.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you do not have an emissions sticker, there are several possibilities to park outside the zone. Our recommendations are the Carl-Benz-Stadion (A on the map) from where you can take tramlines 6 and 9 to the city center, and the Marktauf supermarket (B) from where you can take tramlines 4 and 5. If you approach Mannheim from the west, the large shopping center Walzmühle in Ludwigshafen (C) is a third option. Right next to the shopping center, which has its own parking garage, you can take the S-Bahn with which you can reach Mannheim in only a few minutes.

Of course, if you already are in Germany it may be too late to order the sticker online. You can still purchase it while on the road in Germany though. Vehicle inspection companies such as A.T.U or DEKRA sell the sticker, as do most larger car dealerships. Gas stations and tourist information centers do not sell the sticker. Make sure you take your vehicle registration certificate with you.

What is there to see and do in Mannheim?

Mannheim

Mannheim is one of the largest cities in the state of Baden-Württemberg. Very interesting is the street pattern in the historical center. You will not find any street names here, but a checkerboard pattern with letters and numbers to indicate addresses. Most of the historical center was built around 1700 together with the Barockschloss Mannheim, a palace belonging to the Elector of the Palatine. The Wasserturm built in the Jugendstil is another famous attraction. If it’s museums you want to visit, choose either the Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum or the Kunsthalle Mannheim.
