Low-emission zone in Gladbeck

On the map above you can see which parts of Gladbeck are covered by the low-emission zone. The parts of the city north of the Konrad-Adenauer-Allee, the Sandstraße and the Hegestraße are not included in the zone. An emissions sticker is not compulsory here. Because since 1 January 2012 the low-emission zone of Gladbeck is part of the much larger low-emission zone of the Ruhr area, the zone also extends beyond the borders of this map.

Exceptions

Apart from in the northern suburbs of Gladbeck, you also do not need an emissions sticker on the A2. This is because the German highways are never part of low-emission zones. Look at our map of the Ruhr area to see where you can leave the zone without having to need an emissions sticker. If however, you leave the highway within the zone, a sticker will be required.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you want to reach the city center of Gladbeck, but have not been able to acquire an emissions sticker, it is still possible to park outside the low-emission zone. For a short visit, you could park at the Artur-Schirrmacher-Sporthalle (A on the map) on the Konrad-Adenauer-Allee. Because Gladbeck is not a very large city, you can easily walk to the city center from here.

Which emissions sticker do you need in Gladbeck?

The green emissions sticker

In Gladbeck the green emissions sticker is required. Most vehicles with petrol engines from 1993 or later and diesel engines from 2006 or later are eligible. If you do not have a green sticker, you risk a fine of €100.

Availability of the emissions sticker

Unless your will depart soon, the easiest way to obtain an emissions sticker is to buy it online. Do keep in mind that depending on your country of residence, it might take a few days for your sticker to arrive.

Vehicle inspection companies such as A.T.U and DEKRA all sell the emissions sticker. Many larger car dealerships will also help you out. A copy of your vehicle registration certificate will be necessary. In German, this certificate is called Zulassungsbescheinigung. Do make sure you buy the sticker before and not after you enter a low-emission zone though.

Gladbeck is a former industrial city and is not famous for tourist attractions. Nevertheless, if you have to visit Gladbeck and you have some time left, make sure to check out Wasserschloss Wittringen. This is an old castle built in the 13th century that nowadays serves as a museum about the history of Gladbeck.
