Map of the low-emission zone in Bremen
The orange zone on the map above indicates the low-emission zone of Bremen. As you can see, not only the historical city center, but also parts of Finndorf, the Östliche Vorstadt and Neustadt are part of it. The beginning of the zone is clearly indicated with road signs. Bremerhaven, Bremen’s harbor about 60 kilometers north of the city, is not part of the low-emission zone.
Exceptions
Bremen does not have any highways within the low-emission zone where the sticker is not needed. Part of the Breitenweg however, does not belong to the zone. This road is meant for larger trucks and lorries to reach the business park near the train station. On the map this part of the Breitenweg is indicated with a blue line. An emissions sticker is not necessary here. On the elevated Hochstraße Breitenweg a sticker is necessary.
Parking outside the low-emission zone
While Bremen does not want any polluting vehicles within its city center, it does provide the opportunity to park just outside the low-emission zone. The huge P+R terrain Bürgerweide (A on the map) with 2.800 parking lots lies just north of the train station. From here you can walk to the historical center in about 10 minutes. If you want, you can also take a tram that leaves regularly from the eastern end of the Bürgerweide.
Which emissions sticker do you need in Bremen?
As in most German cities, you need the green emissions sticker to drive within the low-emission zone and prevent a fine of €100. If your vehicle is not eligible, your best option is to park outside the zone as described above.
Availability of the emissions sticker for Bremen
The city of Bremen does not directly sell the emissions sticker for foreign vehicles, but it is easy enough to pick up your sticker at a vehicle inspection company such as DEKRA or TÜV. Many larger car dealerships also should be able to help. You will have to buy the sticker before you drive into the low-emission zone of Bremen though, so it is advisable to look up where to buy your sticker beforehand. The emissions sticker is not for sale at most gas stations along the highway.
If you still have enough of time, an easier way to obtain your sticker is to order it online. If you use our order form and if your vehicle is eligible, your sticker will be issued in Germany and sent by mail within one working day. A digital copy of your vehicle registration certificate needs to be uploaded together with your application. Payment options include SEPA bank transfer and most credit cards.
