On the map above, you can see which part of Bottrop belongs to the low-emission zone. Because as per 1 January 2012 the low-emission zone of Bottrop is part of the much larger low-emission zone of the Ruhr area, the zone also extends far beyond what is shown on the map. For an overview of the entire zone, please see our page about the Ruhr area.

Important to know is that while the city borders of Bottrop lie still further north, the borders of the low-emission zone do not. Movie Park Germany is located here, but it is not part of the low-emission zone and an emissions sticker is not necessary to visit the attraction park.

Exceptions

An emissions sticker is also not necessary if you only pass by Bottrop on the highway. German highways are never part of low-emission zones. If you enter and leave the low-emission zone of Bottrop on the A2, A516 or A42, you do not need an emissions sticker. Be aware however, that you cannot leave any of these highways without a sticker as long as you still are in the low-emission zone.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you did not have enough time to buy an emissions sticker or if your vehicle is not eligible, you could still park outside the low-emission zone. From the parking lot of the Lidl on the Teutoburger Straße (A on the map) or from the parking lot near Golfpark Jacobi (B), you can reach the city center of Bottrop in about 15 minutes. Unfortunately, there is no convenient way to reach Bottrop by public transport. You will have to walk.

Another option is to buy the sticker on the road in Germany, useful for when you do not have time left to wait for the sticker to be delivered to your home address. The emissions sticker is available at most larger car dealerships and also at vehicle inspection companies. Ask for an Umweltplakette or a Feinstaubplakette. You will need to show your vehicle registration certificate. The sticker does not tend to be for sale at gas stations along the highway.

Photo of Bottrop

Most tourists will think of Movie Park Germany when they hear the name Bottrop, but the former industrial city is also home to a few unusual attractions. One of these is the Tetraeder, an enormous steel construction in the form of a mathematical figure which you can climb. For indoor skiing there is the Alpincenter and for even more adrenaline you can visit Indoor Skydiving Bottrop, which is a huge, vertical wind tunnel. If you’re in search of a more traditional tourist attraction there still is Schloss Beck, a small palace from the 18th century that has been transformed into a theme park for children.
