Low-emission zone in Augsburg

Following several other German cities, Augsburg in western Bavaria designated a low-emission zone on 1 July 2009. Within this zone, an emissions sticker is compulsory for most motorized vehicles. On the map above, the low-emission zone of Augsburg is colored orange. As you can see, it not only includes the historical city center, but also the railway station and a few residential areas. If you only pass by Augsburg and skip the city center, you do not need an emissions sticker. Major roads such as the A8, the B2, B17 and the B300, are not part of the low-emission zone. The beginning of the low-emission zone is clearly indicated with road signs. There is no need to worry you will accidentally drive into a part of the city where you need an emissions sticker.

Parking outside the low-emission zone

If you do not want to buy an emissions sticker or if your car is not eligible, you can choose to park outside the low-emission zone of Augsburg. From the P+R terrain Plärrergelände (A on the map) you can take tram line 4 into the city center. From P+R terrain Spickelbad (B), useful if you approach Augsburg from the east, there are regular buses. Because Augsburg is a fairly small city, it will usually not take more than 10 minutes to reach the center.

Which emissions sticker do you need in Augsburg?

Augsburg was one of few the German cities that allowed the yellow emissions sticker for many years. Since 1 June 2016 however, the green emissions sticker is the only sticker that allows you to drive within the low-emission zone.

Availability of the emissions sticker for Augsburg

There are several ways to obtain the green emissions sticker that is necessary to drive within the low-emission zone of Augsburg. You will need a copy of your vehicle registration certificate and your sticker will be sent to your home address by mail.

Augsburg is one of the oldest cities of Germany and it also has one of the most beautiful city centers of the country. Especially worth seeing are the Renaissance city hall, the more than a thousand years old Perlachturm, the graceful cathedral and the medieval housing complex the Fuggerei.
